Best of 2013-- The Groomsmen

Best of 2013-- The Groomsmen

Why isn't there a show about the groomsmen? There are a few predictables on a wedding day, but when it comes to the groomsmen--well, we just don't know what to expect: knives, guns, beer, beer, whiskey, beer, air time, superhero's, and movie covers. There is no way of knowing what poses these guys may come up with and what they are willing to do in front of the camera. It is always a joy getting to know each group of friends and brothers and capturing such a fun part of the day. We hope you enjoy!

Shelly & Brian Brave the Cold

Shelly & Brian Brave the Cold

The first time we met Shelly and Brian it was obvious how much fun we were going to have on their wedding day.  And they didn't disappoint.  They chose Grand Geneva--specifically, the Evergreen ballroom--as their reception venue for a very special reason: it was there at a friend's wedding  they had met years previous.

The road conditions made for an interesting drive over to Chapel on the Hill for the ceremony in a trolley bus, but thankfully we made it around Lake Geneva safely.  We had taken their engagement photos at the stables of Grand Geneva on a different freezing cold day, so we figured why not this day?

The bridesmaids ran in and out of the bus to keep warm, stealing a groomsman jacket whenever possible.  The falling snow made for the perfect backdrop for all of the photos throughout the day.  While summer is always a fun time of year to be shooting, there is a beauty and purity to winter that surpasses all seasons--but the warmth and love that  Shelly & Brian share couldn't have been a more perfect couple to put in that backdrop.

Lake Geneva a wonderful place to vacation

Lake Geneva a wonderful place to vacation

Many see Lake Geneva as a quick 3 day weekend get-a-way during the summer.  They may stay at Grand GenevaThe Abbey Resort, and other wonderful resort locations.  Some love it here so much they buy a second home.  But sometimes another option is overlooked.  Consider coming and staying for one or two weeks perhaps make it a family reunion and stay at a Keefe Rental property.  They specialize in week long or more vacations in the Lake Geneva area.  There is much more you can explore especially when you make this destination a longer vacation!

I’ve enjoyed working with Keefe Resort Rentals as they have many private vacation rentals, which can be a more cost-effective way to travel than one might think.  The homes, condos, and lakefront homes offer fully-stocked kitchens and all the amenities of home; more spacious than a hotel room.  Many units can accomodate multiple families which helps to defray the costs.   Check them out at: www.keeferentals.com.

Below are some fun photos from the Lake Geneva area.

Jason proposes to Victoria at Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva

Jason proposes to Victoria at Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva

For weeks Jason schemed and planned his proposal to Victoria. I was honored to be asked to shoot these special moments. Some of the photos in this gallery were me pretending to be a nature photographer. I had a tripod set up shooting video to look "official."

Jason and I met up the day before to scout out and make some final decisions about where the proposal was going to take place.  We decided on this snowy creek location which is on hole number one of the Brute at Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva, WI.

I brought a small plastic shovel to clear out some snow so I wouldn't get as cold standing in the snow while I waited.  Then I tried my hardest not to look like I was in place to capture their very special moment.  Every time Victoria would look my way I would get down and shoot another direction and I think I pulled it off.

Border Patrol Christmas Party

Border Patrol Christmas Party

This weekend my team and I shot the Christmas party for a franchise of Taco Bell called Border Patrol at Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva.  I was very impressed with the family atmosphere and how much effort the owners took to encourage and reward managers for improvements and growth.  We had a lot of fun with out photobooth and captured lots of photos to help remember this black tie event.

Elizabeth & Jesse Engagement Portraits at Grand Geneva

Elizabeth & Jesse Engagement Portraits at Grand Geneva

Sometimes when it is just too cold to do an outdoor engagement shoot we will go over the Grand Geneva to do the shoot. There are so many beautiful spots to shoot at the Grand!  Jesse and Elizabeth are a wonderful couple and it was a pleasure to spend some time with them while shooting these portraits.  In this case we were able to combine both indoor venues as well as some outdoor spots and I happened to be shooting a holiday party that night so we set up my photobooth early and we were able to get some fun studio shots as well.  It was so much fun.  Check out the prop photos and the twister pose!  Below are some of my favorite images from the shoot.  If you would like to view more hi-res follow this link. Grand Geneva engagement photos in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
