I like to take a look at the magazine rack on the way out of the grocery store to see if one of my images has been published. I was thrilled to see my image on the cover of Waukesha County Magazine. Perhaps this is how a musical artist feels when she hears her song on the radio for the first time. The models were a delight to work with. Waukesha County has a lot to offer. Before today I thought a "hike" was what a center did when the quarterback yelled the word, or a long walk in the wilderness. But I experienced a HIKE today on an ice boat called Zephyr III with Bob Mereness at the helm. In this case a hike is when the boat edges up on two of the three runners. Ice boats can get up to 100 mph although today I think we were only going about 50, which was plenty fast for this newby! So I started by walking out on transparent ice, so see-through that I felt like I was walking on water. You could see fish swimming underneath. I was questioning my own sanity for just a second but then remembered I am committed to getting the shot "no matter what" so I charged on about a 1/4 mile into Lake Geneva with my Canon 5D Mark II with 1080p HD video built in. It turned out that a monopod and my 24-105 lens was the perfect combination for the video project.
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it.

Pantone, LLC announced the color of the year for 2010. It is PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise. The recent press release stated, "Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing." What do you think? Is this color deserving of the 2010 color of the year? Personally I like the color. Here is a swatch from Pantone.

Walworth had quite the Ice Storm on Christmas Eve. I loved the way the world had this huge transparent coating on it. So I went out and shot this video and my wife Heather and I wrote a script and Heather narrated it. I'd love to hear what you think of it!
I recently had the pleasure of working directly with Jon Troast, the famous but approachable and humble singer song writer from Lake Geneva, WI. We created a music video based on the song "Living Room Tour." In 2008 Jon performed 100 living room concerts in 100 days. This music video helps tell the story that was inspired by his adventure. A special thanks to Josh Pilman and Brian Slawson for their help in shooting. The video was shot entirely on a Canon 5D MII. Also, thanks to Jason and Ruth Arndt for the use of their living room and to Cooper the wonderful dog who starred in the video.

I am very proud of my church, Mt. Zion Christian Church. Every year dozens participate in musical performances that takes weeks of dedication and preparation. This year was no exception. Seven Christmases is the story of a couple married in tough economic times in the middle of WWII. He is a pilot and a dreamer and she simply wants a man who provides for his family. When the US enters the conflict he wants to go and follow his dream of piloting and serving his country.

I met my precious wife Heather while attending Moody Bible Institute and fell head over heels in love. I was ready to be married way before she was. Then tragedy struck. When she was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in December, 1993 she told me she would understand if I wanted to break up with her. To me, this was like taking a hot knife through butter for my heart. A few months later, we were married on May 16, 1994. Our ceremony was very small and very casual. Just her parents, my parents and her siblings. Even though we were married on a shoestring budget Heather spent an incredible amount of time and energy finding just the right shoes. :)
Heather's MS has progressed to an unimaginable paralysis, but through our faith in Jesus Christ she keeps a strong attitude and ministers to everyone around her. She is one of the most gracious and thoughtful individuals I know.
Other stuff? Well, I started taking an interest in art when I was very young. I loved to draw and paint. When my parents took me to the store I would always go through the office supplies and arts section and just hang out.
Photography came much later in life and pretty much coincides with the digital era. Photography combines my love for art and techiness with my affinity for people. After shooting my first wedding in 2005 I found myself addicted to the organized chaos and unbridled happiness and haven't looked back since.
In sports I enjoy seeing how far I can push myself. In addition to basketball and racquetball I have participated in triathlons, marathons, the Iron Man and a bike race called Race Across America.

I am speaking to a high school class at Big Foot High School in Walworth, WI on Monday. The class is called Digital Imaging so I decided to put together this music video using Animoto to give them a taste of my work. I was privileged to shoot many of these images while working for Ideal Impressions. Two of the images were shot by my buddy Ryan which I combined into a single shot of myself near the beginning. The rest are my creations. Enjoy!
Friday I was blessed with the opportunity to shoot Matt & Megan Paddock’s family portraits at Paradise Springs in Eagle Wisconsin. We shot their boys and their cousin’s as a Christmas gift to grandma. The five boys ages 2 to 10 made for quite a challenge trying to corral all that energy and enthusiasm.

This was a waterfall and the the texture in this photo was completely natural. They were the spray coming up from the waterfall!
It seemed like Paradise Springs offered endless natural opportunities for photographic backdrops!
Photojournalism as its best. Trying to get five boys to all cooperate at the same time is what miracles are about. My super powers must have been limited on this day. But I love the fact that I was able to capture dozens of natural "boys will be boys" type shots.
Owen has a mind of his own. Smiling and looking at the camera must have seemed like someone was asking him to open his mouth and let the dentist pull out a painful tooth.
I think someone camera left was holding a instrument of torture...oh wait that was me with a camera! Love the look! Thanks Owen because this is my favorite little boy shot of the day!!!!
Despite himself Owen did in fact smile and laugh and have tons of fun. This photo is evidence!
